Since 2020 in the Honduras Departments of Copàn, Ocotepeque and Lempira the Lavazza Foundation, together with HRNS and Coffee&Climate promoted the development of a climate-smart region. Thanks to the application of transformative technologies, the objective is to conserve and restore the environment and improve the well-being conditions of the local coffee-producing families.
In three-years project 135 new plots have been implemented to expand crop diversification activities delivering avocado, lime, and plantain plants to 100 farms. Additionally, more than 3.400 hectares have been dedicated to coffee cultivation.
1557 beneficiaries have been reached and among those more than 605 women were involved in the project for a total of more than 27.000 hours devoted to training on good agricultural practices encouraging the development of new models of entrepreneurship among younger generations.
Finally, in cooperation with Healing Water International, 6 water purification stations were built, granting access to drinking water for more than 900 families.
