Lavazza Foundation together with Panzi Foundation in a project to support women victims of sexual violence.
Panzi Foundation is the non-governmental organization founded by Dr. Denis Mukwege, a renowned doctor specializing in gynecology and obstetrics, widely recognized internationally for his work in the treatment of pathological and psycho-social damage caused by sexual violence.
Dr. Mukwege founded Panzi Hospital in 1998 to provide psychological and physical care to victims of sexual violence, while also offering them support to develop new skills and reintegrate into the community. Women who receive assistance at the Panzi hospital have access to educational reintegration programs and legal advice.
In 2018, he received the Nobel Peace Prize, further confirming his status as a global leader and advocate for the rights of women and victims of sexual violence.
Since 2023, Lavazza Foundation and Panzi Foundation cooperates with the primary aim of offering women an opportunity for social and economic redemption through the production and marketing of coffee.
Till now, the project brought to the construction of 20 nurseries with the production of 61.000 coffee seedlings and more than 10.000 plants for the implementation of agroforestry systems. (black beans, soybeans, bananas).
Over 30,000 coffee plants were used to cover 15 hectares of the concession acquired by Panzi Foundation for the beneficiaries of the Kokondo and Lwiro areas.
Thanks to the support of Farmer Field Schools (FFS) 8 field training sessions have been organized. Approach that strengthens the collaboration between beneficiaries by facilitating the exchange of experiences.
